Sunday afternoon was Megan's last official kid birthday party. We decided thirteen is the cutoff. We will still always make birthdays special, but probably not an all-out, invitation list, lots of people party. But, Sunday's party was fun.

We recently got a small ice skating rink in our town, and Megan has been wanting to ice skate

since we went with my family a couple of years ago at Thanksgiving. So, we booked a party. We didn't know when we booked it that it was not real ice, however. I never got on skates Sunday, but it looked almost as difficult to skate on as real ice. I think I would prefer real ice, but I guess there are some advantages to doing it this way. For one thing, it wasn't cold, so falling down wasn't as uncomfortable and the kids didn't need to

dress so warm.
The kids seemed to have a good time. I was pleased with the turn out. I think sometimes Megan doesn't know quite where she fits

in. I think I felt the same way when I was a kid. She has friends her age, and also friends quite a bit younger than she is. She's very mature and responsible at times, but she also still likes to play with her dolls, too. She's in that definite grey area between a kid and a teenager. When she was making her guest list, it included a few friends from school and a few from church, plus family. Well, it grew. It ended up being 19 kids from church, school, family, her puppet team and even some buddies for Andrew to skate with. She ended up inviting the whole junior high from church. I think it made her feel special.

Well, it's official. She has her own cell phone. The kids have been asking for phones for a few years, but we told them they'd have to wait till they turned 13. So, when she was opening her gifts, one of

her bags started ringing. It was, of course, her phone. It came to her fully charged with a cute cover, preloaded with all the important family contact numbers she needs and even a picture of her "baby" as her background. Her awesome daddy even spent part of the weekend downloading many of her favorite songs to it.
One other little treat for Megan was that she received a birthday card from her favorite Lady

Topper, Crystal Kelly. Until last night's ball game when I thanked Crystal for Megan's card, Megan still didn't believe the card was actually from her. Andrew and I had run into Crystal at Target Friday night and she was so gracious to write out the card to Megan.
Special thanks to Megan's Mamasharon for making her cake. Somehow, cake always tastes better to me when I'm not the one who makes the cake! She got off really easy this year. Megan only asked for it to be blue with snowflakes on it. Only one color of icing to mix and two tips to use. I'm grateful for Mamasharon making her cake. I sure didn't have time last week.

Dana, I'm so glad you have the life you have. You've come a long way baby from two years ago!!! It's a joy to read about your family and how happy you are. Praise God you have the husband you do, who makes your life so much richer. Your kids are lucky to have you as mom and Todd as their dad. Yes, they will be married tomorrow and you'll have a whole new horizon to view. Take it all in and savor every minute of it. Love you, Teresa
Happy birthday sweet girl! Oh my, I can't believe you have a teenager. You (and Todd) sure have done a great job raising such sweet kids!
Sounds like a fun party! I just have to ask - if it isn't real ice then what is it?
How bittersweet - she's a teenager and a lovely one at that. Hope you are having a great week.
Wow! A cell phone at 13. I can't even imagine what type of technology will be out when Zoe is 13....
Great party pics!
