My Rent-a-kid is gone!

Well, our Rent-a-kid has graduated. When Amanda came to us three years ago, we were happy to have her. We had "adopted" college students from the Hilltoppers for Christ before, and had enjoyed those relationships a lot. But, we had no idea what we were in for. Amanda has absolutley been a part of this family for the past three years.

She has her own room, key, computer account and food cabinet. She washes dishes, does her laundry here, DVRs her races on our t.v. and babysits. She runs errands, goes to the movies with me, watches the kids' ballgames and cooks in our kitchen. She leaves me her leftover hashbrown casserole, borrows my wine gobblets, helps me pick out my clothes and curls up with our cats and sleeps on our couch. She belongs here and she couldn't be anymore family than if we shared the same blood.

When she graduated today, I felt the same pride I've felt when Megan and Andrew have accomplished great things. And now, she's gone back home. She'll be back next weekend for a visit, but after that, who knows? I felt the same bittersweet emotions today I can only imagine her parents must have felt when they sent her to Western to go to school....proud for her, but missing her terribly. So, before I start to tear up again, I'll simply ask this.......If ANYONE knows of a great job for a Corporate and Organizational Communications major (with honors, I might add) in the Bowling Green area, will you please let me know?

Looks like you all had a wonderful time. How great of you all to open your home to this wonderful young lady. I know she has been blessed because of your family.

What a great thing for your family to do. From the kid side, I'm thankful that my family did this too...I have great memories of Jennifer (Hale/Hardeman, remember her?) living with us.

Oh, and when I looked at the picture, you look like you could have been the rent-a-kid. Seriously, Megan cannot be that old and you cannot be old enough to be her mother!!! Beautiful, all of you!
