A long overdue update...

Obviously we've been pretty busy since I haven't updated in more than two weeks, but rather than bore all 2.8 of my readers with all the details I'll just give you a quick recap.
My Girl Scout troop had their Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony on the 18th where they became Cadettes. I'm really proud of all their hard work. Now if I can just get them to go camping!

My sister came to visit for Memorial Day weekend and she and I took Megan and my nephew camping near Land Between the Lakes for the weekend while Todd and Andrew were away on a Boy Scout camping trip. It was "River Days" at LBL hence the whole Mark Twain thing we've got going on. We bumped into my good friend JP there with her family which was a treat. Let's see...in about 48 hours, we camped (primitively, I might add), swam, went on a paddleboat, attempted to fish, saw a planetarium show, drove through a Bison and Elk Range, made cane fishing poles, toured a nature center, met Smokey the Bear, admired lots of horses, watched an outdoor movie, visited a working 1850s farm, squeezed in a trip to Cracker Barrell, saw two snakes and killed about 7.8 trillion spiders. Needless to say, I stayed in bed most of the day after we got home. All in all, it was a lot of fun. My first-time camper who declares herself "not a nature girl" survived with only minimal trauma and two nightmares. As always happens with camping, lasting memories were made and we'll have things to laugh about. I do have a new respect for my parents, especially my mom and her good buddy Linda, who took us on so man camping trips as children. We only remember the fun. They did all the hard work and still took us over and over again. They deserve medals! By the way, this is what happens if you forget to take your trash and dump it before you go to bed.

Andrew and his Boy Scout troop got to participate in an American Flag retirement ceremony on Memorial Day, which proved to be very special. He was honored to be included and I was honored just to be there. It was reverent and emotional and I will never forget it. They inspected and folded the flags that were either soiled, faded or torn from normal use and respectfully retired themby fire. The day was complete with a 21-gun salute, fire and police officials, patriotic songs, etc. I'm glad they'll be making this an annual tradition.

Am I your 1 or .8 reader? Love the Tom Sawyer pic. Sounds like you guys had an all-American adventure over the weekend. You're braver than I, BTW!
