Ace of Cakes Wannabe

I got tickled when reading a friend's blog the other day because she said she loved watching "Ace of Cakes" on the Food Network. I love it, too. I guess it's because when I began making cakes, I didn't have any desire to make cakes as usual. I wanted to make up creative, original cakes that you sure couldn't buy at Kroger. Anyway, when I went to Atlanta last weekend for my nephew's birthday, not only did I make my mom watch and episode of "Ace of Cakes" with me, I made my nephew's cake. It was a little ambitious, being five layers, but it got done. I'm no Duff Goldman, which is obvious from the way the cake sags, but it was fun none the less. It would've been better in fondant icing, but realistically.....what four-year-old is going to eat fondant? How we came up with a tub of buttered popcorn I'll never know. (By the way, yellow Nerds make great popcorn kernels)

Awesome! And you did that without fondant? I can't even ice a sheet cake, much less all that! I'm impressed...

How cool! It looks buttery delicious! You are a whiz in the kitchen. You made the best groomsman cake EVER at some wedding I attended back in June 1999---hummmmmm =).
