In just a month Andrew and I are heading back to New Orleans to gut houses for a week. I'm really excited. Megan opted not to go this year because she didn't want to miss a homeschool choir concert and her last two softball games. I'm sad I'll miss those events, but I'm really proud to get to work with such a great group of people. When we went last year, we worked hard for four days and got to visit the French Quarter toward the end of the week. It was a treasue because I hadn't been to New Orleans since I was about 8 years old. It was nice to see things that jogged my memory. My greatest memory of N.O. was when there was a huge long line of people waiting to get a table at Cafe Du Monde. Someone vacated a table and my dad threw me really quickly over the wrought iron fence and I snagged the table before anyone knew what had happened.
I was really proud of the kids last year. They helped tear out drywall and got dirty with the rest of us. And, when they weren't, they were sitting in the car watching a DVD on a break. It was a good expereince. The youth group guys really took Andrew in. They're such a great group of kids. Andrew really looks up to them and I'm so pleased that they're worthy of his admiration.
(By the way, our group is still raising money for this trip. If you're interested in supporting the mission, let me know and I'll get you in touch with the right people.)
