Sliding into home

For anyone who doesn't know us very well, let me take a moment to tell you that we're a very laid-back family, not the least bit competitive and can pretty much take or leave most sports. Yeah, right! Since Todd's convinced I'm going to tell the whole world anyway, I figure I'll just start here. We had some friends over for a cookout Saturday night. During the course of the evening, a kickball game came together with some kids and kids-at-heart. Andrew was playing pitcher and Todd was rounding the bases headed for home. It looked like it was going to be a play at the plate....and sure enough it was! Andrew caught the ball, turned, ran toward home, rared back and with all his might hurled it toward his dad. Todd, who couldn't bear the thought of giving up a run, not even to boost the ego of his dear son, decided his only defense was to slide into home plate. From his point of view, it was a wise choice, because had he not, he would surely have been out. So, he slid, scored and his team was thrilled. However, his wife was not! For in the next moment, a friend picked up his cell phone from the grass.....or so we thought. What was picked up was half his cell phone. The other half was recovered moments later. Both pieces had wires hanging out of them. The third piece was later found. That's what I'd call an expensive play. I asked him if the one run was worth it. Of course he said it wasn't. I noticed Sunday morning when he was getting ready for church that he has an enormous bruise on his hip. Just wondering....is this normal husband behavior? Must all husbands go to such great lengths to score a run against a team of children in a casual backyard game of kickball?

It's normal, but nobody said it's smart. It's takes a while to "grow out" of such things and we don't like it when we do. :) David D.

Dana,
That sometimes happens when you forget to invite the youthful
DUNN'S so that Ms. Shelia can hold your stuff.
