Day One Highlights

When we landed, we had to exchange the rental car Todd had already picked up because it only had four seatbelts. Unfortunately, that doesn't work when you have five bottoms to seat. So, just from baggage claim to the rental car place, we all five squeezed in to the convertible. I really regret not getting a photo of this since it reminded me of those circus cars where a dozen clowns all pile out. Anyway, when I climbed into the back seat and went to sit down, I sat on a cupholder and got this enormous bruise. It hurt so bad I couldn't even sleep on that side last night. Michael said my new catch phrase was, "Man, that's going to leave a bruise." However, after my next incident (which I'll explain later) I'm sure I'll have a new catch phrase. Two inches higher and the bruise could've at least been covered by a bathing suit, but this one's right there for all the world to see as I lay on the beach.

After we took care of the car and drove to our resort, we headed out for dinner and drove straight to (drum roll please...) Bubba Gump's. I mean, where else? It's only the greatest restaurant on the planet. We had a great dinner in open air seating just as the sun was setting. When Todd and I were here in 2003, we ate there three out of our five nights on the island. And, of course, the restaurant has sentimental value for Shelia and me.

Then we walked to the grocery store to pick up a few necessities before heading back to the room to crash for the night about 9 p.m.. That was, of course, 2 a.m. central time, which was 21 hours after leaving Kentucky. That's one VERY long day.

Shelia discovered this pig in the clouds on our way to dinner.
