It's Not As Hard As It Sounds

On Thursday, Todd played some more golf in the morning while I did a little souvenir shopping. Okay, this time he spent a little less money than I did. He actually found a really reasonably priced course that was still beautiful. We picked him up, grabbed some lunch and headed off on a little adventure.

Todd, David, Michael and I went on a kayaking tour. Listen to this....I, the confirmed couch potato, let my inner-rugged-all-natural-wannabe-backpacker out and did this 5 mile kayak, 2 mile hike. I thought I'd be dying the next day. I thought my biceps would be burning and I don't recall even feeling an ache. Kind of makes me want to start drinking nothing but water, eating organic energy bars and wearing khaki shorts and fishing hats. Well, almost. I've had three Diet Cokes today already.

I don't have actual photographic evidence of the kayaking until we develop the film in the waterproof camera, but I can prove the rest of the trip. It was great. It was just the four of us and one other couple led by a fun guide. We kayaked up the Wailua River, and hiked to the "Secret Falls." I'm not so sure why they're a secret, except that the only way to get there is on foot. We were the last tour of the day, which means we had the falls all to ourselves. What a great experience!
The water was a little chilly at first, but well worth the swim. If you look closely, you'll see the four of us in that waterfall.
The hike led us through ancient Hawaiian ruins in the beautiful rainforest. Our guide told us about the settlers in the area including some of their beliefs. One of those beliefs in particular, I want to expound on later when my mind isn't made of Play-doh because it has some definite spiritual applications.
On the trail, we ran into "Koa," one of the many wild boars that roam the area eating all the Mangos that have fallen from the trees. Okay, so he's on a leash and doesn't look all that wild. The story goes that Bryson, his owner found him on the trail when he was a baby, rubbed his belly and Koa followed him home. This story just might be true, because Bryson rubbed Koa on the side and he rolled over to have his belly rubbed just like a puppy.
