Mission to Mars

It's been a little hard to update the last few days because we've been on the go so much. I'm a little sad to leave Maui tomorrow because I may never come back again, but I'm also excited to check out Kauai. We've had a great time on Maui, but I'm looking forward to a little slower pace on Kauai and a lot more rest. There are fewer activities to choose from, so that means more time for laying on the beach!

Thursday after Todd, Michael and I took the zip line tour, we drove to the top of Mt. Haleakala Crater. It's like a whole different planet up there at almost 10,000 ft. above sea level. The crater looks like the setting for an outerspace movie. It was freezing up there, with a wind chill around 30 degrees. Then, an hour and a half later, we were back in sunny Kihei in our swimsuits. What a strange feeling! All the way up and down the mountain, we were driving in and out of the clouds. They moved so quickly across the roads. It almost reminded me of one of those horror movie where the fog eerily moves in, only this was much more beautiful! One funny thing we noticed about the altitude was that when we opened our picnic lunches at 10,000 feet, our ziploc bags had inflated like balloons!

We learned a little about the Hawaii state bird on our Thursday excursions. It's called the NeNe. It's endangered and killing one could get you a $250,000 fine and two years in prison. It's also a No-no to feed the NeNes. In addition, we got to see a Silver Sword in bloom. They are only found on Mt. Haleakala and bloom only once in their lifetime. No one knows when or why they bloom when they do. (I betcha God knows!)

We saw two rainbows today, one on the way back to Kihei, and the other was just over our resort. Check it out! Last time I was here, the two things I never go to see were sea turtles and a rainbow. This time I've seen them both.
Next to being born into a Christian family, loving and living with my husband and getting to parent two wonderful children, this trip feels like one of the greatest privileges of my life. I certainly don't deserve to get to look on things this beautiful. all this majesty makes me feel so small. It also makes me really look forward to Heaven.
Hopefully we will have internet access on Kauai and can continue these updates. I still have pictures from our Friday excursion to share. But, it's late now and I need to get a little sleep.
P.S. Andrew, you have to be 80 lbs. to ride the zip line. If you get to 80, I'll try to find you a zip line somewhere, okay? I miss you both very much, Megan and Andrew!

Hey Dunns and Gibbs Families!
You all are too cute in Hawaii. We are all so happy that you get to be in such a beautiful place. When can we go? When C & L went a couple of years ago, I told them not to be afraid to listen to the time share people! Hopefully we will get to go one day! Glad that you all are having fun. You all look great!
